The volcano Kawah Ijen watched closely!

Early in December, visual observations showed brown-white emissions with a weak pressure rising 50-200 metres above the crater. Between December 8th and 13th, harmonic tremor and 77 shallow volcanic earthquakes were recorded at the volcano. Due to an increase in seismicity and gas emissions, the alert level of Kawah Ijen was raised to 3 on December 18th by the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia (VSI). The access to the crater is closed and a 1.5-km radius security zone has been set up. This affects both visitors and sulphur miners.


Fortunately, Indonesia is the land of volcanoes and offers many other volcanoes where the climbs are still available...
